Hefty fines from The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019 have been making motorists sleepless for the past few days. And it is just a usual affair to forget carrying valid documents and papers relevant to your vehicle. But that doesn’t mean you have to pay a hefty fine for that.
Apps like DigiLocker and mParivahan allow you to store and show digital documents to the traffic cops whenever needed. And with the digital document, we don’t mean a photo of the documents or a scanned copy of insurance, driving license or RC.
There is an amendment in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989 that allows you to produce the relevant documents related to transport like fitness and permit, pollution check certificate, DL, license, insurance, etc electronically. It is a step towards citizen facilitation.
From September 1, 2019, after the new Motor Vehicle Act came into force, the fines for violating road rules have significantly gone up. The fine for driving without a license is now ₹5,000 which was previously ₹500. It has gone up to ₹10,000 from ₹500 for driving without qualification.
For light motor vehicles, the fine for over speeding is now ₹1,000 and ₹ 2,000 for medium passenger vehicles which were ₹400 previously. And if you are driving without the seatbelt, you will have to pay ₹1000 instead of ₹100. These apps will at least save you from the hefty fines for missing documents.
